Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using PianoChords.ca ("the Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.

2. Description of Service

PianoChords.ca provides interactive piano chord diagrams, audio playback, sheet music notation, and educational music content. Some features require a free account.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account on PianoChords.ca. If you are under 18, you represent that you have your parent's or guardian's permission to use the Site. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 — see our Privacy Policy for details.

4. Accounts

• You must provide accurate information when creating an account.
• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
• You may not create accounts for the purpose of abusing the voting or favorites system.
• We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

Before suspending or terminating your account for a terms violation, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you and provide an opportunity to address the issue, except where immediate action is necessary to protect the Site or other users.

Upon account deletion (whether by you or by us), you may request an export of your saved data for up to 30 days. After that period, your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use automated tools to scrape or bulk-download content from the Site
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' data
• Manipulate voting or engagement metrics
• Use the Site for any unlawful purpose
• Interfere with or disrupt the Site's infrastructure
• Engage in any other conduct that we determine, in our sole discretion, violates these terms

We reserve the right to determine, in our sole discretion, whether conduct violates these terms.

6. Intellectual Property

The chord data, diagrams, audio samples, and site design are the property of PianoChords.ca. Music theory concepts (chord structures, intervals, scales) are not proprietary and are freely available knowledge. You may not reproduce or redistribute the Site's content without permission.

You may share individual chord diagrams for personal or educational purposes (such as with a student or in a blog post), provided you include attribution to PianoChords.ca. Bulk downloading, commercial redistribution, or reproducing substantial portions of the Site's content without our written permission is prohibited.

7. User Content

Custom voicings and other content you save to your account remain yours. By saving content, you grant us a limited license to store and display it back to you as part of the service.

8. Disclaimers

The Site is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the Site will be available at all times or that the content is free of errors. PianoChords.ca is an educational resource and is not a substitute for professional music instruction.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including the Consumer Protection Act, 2002 (Ontario).

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, PianoChords.ca shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Site.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including the Consumer Protection Act, 2002 (Ontario).

10. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. For material changes, we will notify you by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. For changes that significantly affect your rights or how the service operates, we will ask for your affirmative acknowledgment. The updated terms will also be posted on this page with a revised date.

11. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada. You agree that the courts of the Province of Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes arising from these terms or your use of the Site.

12. Dispute Resolution

If you have a dispute with us, please contact us at hello@pianochords.ca first so we can try to resolve it informally. If we cannot resolve the dispute informally within 30 days, you agree that the courts of the Province of Ontario, Canada have exclusive jurisdiction.

13. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
